Hannah Barclay grew up watching Allen Community College’s dance team perform.
Now the Iola High senior will be out on the floor with the Firestarters. Barclay signed to participate on the ACC dance team next year.
“It was the spur of the moment decision to try out for the team. I had danced at South Street Dance Studio for 10 years but haven’t been in the studio for the past three years,” Barclay said.
“I missed dance and thought why not try out.”
Barclay has competed on the Iola High tennis team over the past few years. She’s been active in other high school organizations as well.
“I signed Hannah for dance knowing she has taken years of studio instruction through South Street,” said Mindy Covey, ACC dance and cheer coach. “She seems to be a great fit for the Firestarters. I’m excited to get her started and see what she is capable of doing.”
Barclay said her plans are being at Allen for one year then going on to Emporia State or Pittsburg State. She said she wanted to pursue tryouts for the dance team at one of the four-year colleges.
She is the daughter of Neal and Sherri Barclay, Iola. Barclay plans to study early childhood development.
